Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

I have many fond memories of my brothers and I curling up with Mum reading this book and it’s fantastic to share this book with kids today, watching them as they “roared their terrible roars, and gnashed their terrible teeth.” I’ve heard a few different versions of the real meaning of this book. Subversive theories aside, this tale is a wicked romp for all ages trumpeting the power of imagination. It’s easy to get the kids involved with plenty of actions and dances. Packed with descriptive words, this is a great story for early readers too. Who doesn’t want to sail to a wild land and be made king? This is children’s fiction at its very best: interactive, a little weird, and fun! -- Anna K
