This resplendent reprint pairs each of the 120 large-scale illustrations with a brief description discussing the symbolism, cultural history and artistic impact of Hiroshige's final masterpiece. The production and printing quality of this volume is exquisite--the silk cover, the color depth and the quality of the paper. Hiroshige (1797-1858) was one of the last great artists in the ukiyo-e tradition. Though he captured a variety of subjects, his greatest talent was in creating landscapes of his native Edo (modern-day Tokyo). This large format tome has a traditional Japanese binding and silk bookcase.
